Backlinks - What are backlinks ?
What they are links that point to certain sites. So the site linking will have at least one outbound link (leaving link) and the site receiving the link will have one inbound link.
You have to realize the importance of backlinks.
From a SEO standpoint, they give your site tremendous weight. Credibility is what everyone wants for their site and backlinks give you essentially that. They can mean the difference from a site you will never be able to find to those coming in at the top of search engine results.
Now they aren't the be all and end all of SEO, but they are important. So important that people spend hundreds of dollars on purchasing links, but that is akin to buying or renting people to pretend to be your friend for the weekend. May give you a quick jolt but will evaporate over time.
Where your links come from are also important, if your site about growing vegetables or gardening, then to the search engines having links from gambling sites are not relevant. Well not as relevant or carry the same weight as having them come from sites of a like nature as your own.
All of this attributes to your Page Rank or "PR", so in turn the higher the Page Rank of the sites you are getting backlinks from adds to the mix as well.
In short a link is a link is a link and the more links you get the better. But not all links are created equal, so take some time and choose your links, it could mean all of the difference in the world to the almighty search engine gods.
